Additional $74 Million Dedicated to Mine Reclamation

Maryland, Ohio, and Virginia receive funding opportunity

The Department of the Interior recently announced that $74 million has been made available to reclaim abandoned mines in Maryland, Ohio, and Virginia. The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement has been working to distribute $725 million over the course of the 2022 fiscal year and will distribute $11.3 billion to abandoned mine reclamation projects over the next 15 years.

“We have a once-in-a-generation investment to address legacy pollution,” said Secretary Deb Haaland. “These funds will support vitally needed jobs, creating opportunity for local workers in their own communities. And once these sites are cleaned up, they become part of the foundation for new economic development.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
